Personal notes:
Once a 6th man off the bench as a forward, he has become one of the fine guards in pro basketball…1st team All-ABA last year, 2nd team the year before…4-time All-Star who was 3rd in the league in scoring last season with a 25.2 average…excellent free throw shooter along with outstanding jump shot…played 3 ½ seasons with Dallas, almost 5 with Utah before coming to St. Louis…has never missed a game since he started playing organized ball in 4th grade…that covers high school, college and the pros…by the middle of this season he had played in more than 700 straight regular season and playoff games as a pro, needing another season to catch all time pro leader Johnny Kerr at 844…played 5 games with a shoulder separation and several games in the ABA championship series with a heavily-bandaged hand that had become infected when Brian Taylor's teeth got in the way of Boone's fist…called "instant offense" by Utah fans when he came off the bench…"I'm more conservative now…when I was a 6th man I came in and tried to create something in a hurry, and I would do some crazy things…my game is more controlled now as a starter and I make less errors"…only 5-8 when he was graduated from high school in Omaha, where he grew up, and didn't get many scholarship offers…spent 1 year at Clarinda Community College in Iowa before going to Idaho State…played football in high school as a 5-5 quarterback, but 1st love was baseball as a shortstop and 2nd baseman…nickname "Chief" given by teammate Willie Wise at Utah, who decided Boone looked like an Indian without knowing that Boone has some Choctaw blood from his grandmother…3 brothers and 2 sisters all went to college on basketball scholarships and youngest brother still in school in Omaha…married with 2 children, who all remained in Salt Lake City, where they have a home.
