Personal notes:
Nicknamed Duck from elementary school days when every Donald was nicknamed Duck…It stayed with him through high school, college and the pros…considered on of the premier defensive guards in basketball…not only quick, tall for a guard and very strong he also has extremely long arms which deflect passes and hamper passage…armspan is 85 inches, sleeve is 38½ …"Dave Cowans is 6-9 and I outreach him by about 4 inches"…battled Elvin Hayes for scoring lead at Houston as a freshman but varsity coach wanted his big men to do the scoring so Don concentrated on defense…most memorable moment was ending UCLA's first long winning streak before 82,000 people in the Astrodome…health and phys ed major in college but now probably would like to try coaching…baseball shortstop and first baseman in high school and team won 2 state titles in a row…avid salt water fisherman in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico…1 brother, 2 sisters and parents now live in LA…married to wife, Jackie, 8 years, and they have 1 boy and 2 girls 6 and 3 years old and 6 months.
