Drafted on 1st round by Memphis in 1971, 4th round by Boston of NBA. Signed with Carolina after Memphis traded the rights to him. Traded by Carolina to Memphis with George Lehmann and Warren Davis for Wendell Ladner, Tom Owens and Bobby Warren in Jan., 1972. Traded by Memphis to Utah for Rick Mount, Julius Keye and the rights to coach Joe Mullaney in Aug., 1974. Purchased by St. Louis from Utah in Dec., 1975.

Playing in his 5th season as a pro in the ABA…entered this season with 12.8 career scoring average and about 9 1/2 rebounds a game playing part time most of the time…was off to his finest season with Utah with 17.2 points and 14 rebounds a game, both among league leaders…received All American recognition in college…averaged 19.8 points and 12.7 rebounds in 3 varsity years in tough ACC…psychology major with a B.A. degree…nicknamed "tree" in college because of size…big baseball fan as youngster, played 2 years as an offensive end in football in high school…started playing basketball at age 13 when he was 6-2, but 1st had to convince his mother to let him play and give up the piano after 8 years of lessons…"I still play the piano and love it"…biggest basketball thrill was winning MVP honor as a sophomore in the 1968 Sugar Bowl Classic when Duke beat Iowa for the tournament title…wife, Judy, and he have 2 children, Amanda, 2, and Nathaniel, 7 months…"I'm a family man…I drive a station wagon"…brother and sister still live in his native Raleigh…has worn an Afro for 3 years, "I always had curly hair."
