Signed after his junior year at Virginia, where he was runnerup to David Thompson in scoring in the ACC with 20.8 average and named 2nd team All ACC two straight years…member of Spirits all rookie front line last season as he was named to ABA All Rookie team…only Spirit to play in all 84 games last season…All American in high school and pre-season All American pick for his senior year before signing…played center as a sophomore…toughest thing about pros was "getting ready to play every night against a good player"…reunited this season with good friend Barry Parkhill, who was college senior when Gus was sophomore…met wife, Gaye, at a party at Parkhill's apartment…married 1 year…had a tough summer when a sinus condition spread into an ear and affected his hearing and balance…lifted weights and "drank a lot of milkshakes" trying to put on weight (gained 5 pounds)…shoe size of 15 gave him the nickname "Daddy Hooves."
