How acquired:
Drafted on 3rd round by Virginia in 1973 and the 2nd round by Philadelphia. Virginia traded the rights to him to San Diego. Purchased by Kentucky from San Diego in November, 1975. Traded by Kentucky to St. Louis for Maurice Lucas in December, 1975.

Personal notes:
One of the premier defensive centers in basketball as he led the ABA in blocks each of 1st 2 seasons…was leading league again this season before being traded to Kentucky, where he played out of position at forward…moved back to center when he was traded to the Spirits…played his 1st season in the ABA under idol Wilt Chamberlain, who was coaching San Diego…"I learned a lot from Wilt playing against him in practice"…suffered 4 broken noses and a cracked wrist during his rookie season but missed only 5 games…Artis Gilmore is toughest opponent…business administration major in college at Albany State, where 5 of his 6 brothers also went to school…brother Oliver, 6-8, now coaches there; Melvin, 6-8 ½, still lives there; Wil, 6-8, now plays with Kentucky; Major is a 6-9 senior there, and Charles, 6-9 ½, is a freshman there…other brother, Clint, 6-3, lives in St. Louis and works for the city, and attends all the Spirits games…father is 6-3, mother 6-0, they live in his native McGhee, Ark., where all the family gather for a week or so during the summer and the boys play pickup games in the backyard…he is not married…most memorable game was against Morehouse College as a senior when he had 29 points, 43 rebounds and 17 blocked shots…will live in San Diego during off-season.
